Submit your paper to Fire Ecology!

Fire Ecology is the international scientific journal supported by the Association for Fire Ecology. Fire Ecology publishes peer-reviewed articles on all ecological and management aspects relating to wildland fire. We welcome submissions on topics that include a broad range of research on the ecological relationships of fire to its environment. All articles published by the Fire Ecology are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication, without subscription charges or registration barriers. Feel free to contact Editor-in-Chief Dr. Robert Keane or Springer Nature Editor Takeesha Moerland-Torpey for details! If these reasons aren’t good enough, then here are some other reasons for publishing in Fire Ecology.

#SNFECO

The latest Fire Ecology journal content is now available via AFE’s @fireecology Twitter account as well as @SpringerEcology and @SpringerPlants. Please follow one of these accounts for the latest content and (re)tweet your favorite #SNFECO articles!

AFE Member Discount

AFE members are eligible for a 15% discount on original research, reviews, forum articles and monographs submitted to Fire Ecology. This is applied through a SpringerOpen membership account number which can be obtained directly from AFE if you are a member in good standing. Please send an e-mail to office@fireecology.net and ask for the SpringerOpen membership account number before submitting your paper. To avoid a delay in the submission process, please do not start the submission process without first obtaining the SpringerOpen membership account number!

Lifetime Book Discount

Would you like a discount off Springer books? All Springer Nature book and journal authors receive a 40% lifetime discount!

SN Loves Preprints

Springer Nature loves preprints so much that we streamlined our preprint sharing policy and launched our very own preprint server, In Review! Does Fire Ecology accept preprints? Yes! Is it acceptable to upload a draft—incomplete or final version—of your article which has not yet been peer reviewed for formal publication to a preprint server? Yes! You can even post your paper prior to, or concurrently with, submission to the Fire Ecology journal. When submitting your preprint, it is very important to mention that it is a preprint in your cover letter and to provide the name of the preprint server and a link to the preprint. Please read more about Springer Nature’s self-archiving, manuscript deposition, and digital preservation.

Publons

Reviewers now have the option at review submission to receive verification of their reviews sent directly to Publons via Fire Ecology!

Transformative Agreements

Transformative agreements are read and publish deals that include both subscription (hybrid) and OA (Open Access) journals. Springer Nature finalized the world's largest transformative open access agreement with Germany called Projekt DEAL in January 2020, recently closed a three-year Transformative Agreement with the Hungarian Academy of Science (HAS) consortium, and just agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a transformative agreement with University of California. These agreements allow all consortium members to publish within eligible OA journals across the Springer Nature portfolio, including Fire Ecology.

What does this mean for Fire Ecology authors? As of August 2020, a corresponding author affiliated with a participating Projekt DEAL institution is entitled to publish open access in Fire Ecology and 600+ fully OA journals with fees covered by the German DEAL agreement. And, A corresponding author affiliated with a participating Hungarian institution may be eligible to publish open access in Fire Ecology and 600+ fully OA journals at no additional charge. And last, in 2021, all University of California corresponding authors will be able to publish their articles with OA as the default within the Springer Nature Hybrid Portfolio as well as in Fire Ecology and 600+ fully OA journals, with financial support from the UC libraries. Please read the press release for the other key elements of the MoU.
